Congratulations to our very own Karen Barrett, legal secretary in our corporate and commercial department, who won a well deserved Bronze medal in the Ladies Pairs at Ten Pin Bowling at the World Transplant Games held in Newcastle last month.

Karen was selected and competed as a transplant athlete after having a kidney transplant 3 years ago.

James Clewlow, Managing Parter at PDT Solicitors says "Stories don’t get better than this. From fighting a kidney illness to undergoing a transplant, to representing Great Britain and winning a Bronze medal for her country. It is a fantastic success story for both Karen and her husband Roger"

Karen says "I spent the most amazing week in Newcastle Gateshead at the World Transplant Games where I won a Bronze medal in the Ladies Pairs at Ten Pin Bowling with Diana Reddy. I also came fifth in the ladies individual and Mixed Pairs bowling with my bowling partner Brett. Roger, my wonderful husband and donor also took part in The Games doing ball throwing and 100m sprint - he came 7th in the ball throwing and 9th  in the 100m sprint and was very pleased with his performance.  We were both so honoured to represent our Country at the Games and hope to do so again. The Games were “Powered by the Gift of Life” and just proves that all recipients have had a second chance at life through having had a transplant of some sort with some family or person making that decision which we are all grateful for. "

PDT Solicitors supported Karen leading up to and post her transplant operation and has sponsored her and her husband at the event, helping towards their costs to compete and attend the games.

The World Transplant Games take place every 2 years and are supported by the International Olympic Committee. It represents the largest organ donor awareness event in the world, featuring a week of 17 sporting events. Team Great Britain and NI joined over 2000 other transplant athletes from 70 countries across the globe. http://worldtransplantgames.org/
